How to clean jewellery at home.

Wondering how to clean jewellery at home? I saw this hilarious instagram reel last week about social media influencers showing off their skin care routines and completely ruining their jewellery! You can check the video out here. I shared it on my own socials and got so many responses from people telling me how guilty they are of wearing their jewels whilst applying hand cream, moisturiser and perfumes. Naughty!

So I thought I'd share some simple tips for how to clean your jewellery at home. First off, I never recommend wearing your rings whilst applying body or hand cream, and same goes for necklaces and earrings if you're spraying perfume or hair spray. Take them off and pop them in a cute little jewellery dish (like Kate Carters ceramics) beforehand.

But, if the gemstones in your rings have lost their sparkle, or your necklace chains are looking a little dull, here's how to give them their shine back.

1. Mix a little cloudy ammonia (available at all supermarkets) in a bowl with some warm soapy water (hand soap or dishwashing detergent is fine).

2. Leave your jewels to soak in there for a few minutes. Use an old soft bristle toothbrush to give your gemstones a little scrub - this will help get out any dirt stuck around the setting. For super dirty pieces, you can leave to soak for a few hours or overnight.

3. Rinse your jewellery off under clean water and pat dry. Voila!

Watch the video I made below, using this 3 step process.
