How to care for jewellery.

How to care for jewellery is another question I get asked, a lot. It's not difficult to do and can make the world of difference in the longevity of your pieces.

Have a look at the basic rules of care below, and check out our video which includes a few do's and don'ts on how to care for your jewellery.

Storage - Keeping your jewellery in it's original packaging (or a proper jewellery box if you have one) when you're not wearing it is so important. This will stop air from tarnishing your pieces and can prevent necklace chains from getting tangled.

Water - I've said it before and I'll say it again, it really depends on what your jewellery is made from and whether it is ok to be worn in the water. I never recommend wearing your jewellery in chlorine or salt water (as these are corrosive), but you can read more about wearing your jewellery in the water on a previous blog post here .

Activity - For obvious reasons, please don't wear your jewellery rock climbing! Good quality jewellery should be built to last during day to day activities, but if you're an active gym bunny or outdoors adventure fanatic, I highly suggest you leave your pretty pieces at home.

Cosmetics & Chemicals - Hand creams, body lotions, perfumes and cleaning chemicals can damage your jewellery. Take off your rings when applying hand cream, your necklaces, earrings and bracelets when spraying perfume or hairspray and please, for the love of gold, if you're using harsh cleaning chemicals  or the like - take your bloody jewellery off!
